Quality early learning experiences are an essential element to preparing children to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. Virginia is committed to supporting all children to access excellent early learning experiences.
The Virginia Department of Education helps prepare all children for kindergarten by supporting birth to five programming, including the Virginia Preschool Initiative and Early Childhood Special Education. Through focusing on key classroom practices, such as using of high-quality curriculum and assessment, supporting positive teacher-child interactions and ongoing family engagement, Virginia’s early learning programs support the growth and development of young children.
Through close partnerships and collaboration with other state agencies and community partners, the Virginia Department Education seeks to support high-quality early childhood experiences for all of Virginia’s youngest learners ages birth to five.
